About Curtin University
An Australian public research university with its main campus in Bentley, Perth, Western Australia, Curtin University was originally known as the Curtin University of Technology and Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT). The largest university in Western Australia, with 59,939 students in 2021, it is named for John Curtin, who served as Prime Minister of Australia from 1941 to 1945.
After the legislation was approved by the Western Australian Parliament in 1986, Curtin was given university status. The Australian Technology Network includes Curtin University among its members. Research is being done at Curtin University in a variety of academic and applied areas. As of 2020, Curtin is the only university in Western Australia whose students have been awarded the Postgraduate Student Gold Medal by the Australian Institute of Nuclear Science and Engineering.
