Whether it’s for public transport, to find the best restaurants, finding a job or accommodation, or even something simple like checking the weather. Then we have you covered to help make your life easier with our top 5 apps you have to download when coming to Australia.
If you want to lease a house and have your name on the lease you’ll find a place on Realestate.com.au

Navigating the public transport system in Australia differs slighlty from state to state. So, download the app for the city you’re planning to stay in.
Melbourne – PTV, this will help you navigate and plan your journey on trains, trams and buses. Plan your journey and set reminders so you don’t miss a thing.
Sydney – Opal Travel, on the app you can top up your Opal travel card and find all the trains, buses, light rail and ferry timetables. No need to waste time locating a ticket machine.
Adelaide – MetroMate, it will tell you exactly when to leave your current location to meet your tram, train or bus and has real time updates and location trackers on the interactive map.
Brisbane – MyTransLink, not only can you find the next train, tram, ferry or bus but you can also follow your bus, train, ferry or tram trip while on-board to see upcoming stops and remaining journey time. Now, in your country you might be blessed with months of sunshine and endless warm nights.. Australia is beautiful don’t get us wrong, but the weather can turn a little hazardous at times. Take Melbourne for example, one day it’s 20 degrees and then next 45! The days can start cool but turn sweltering, and then change back to cool at any point. Or just rain without warning. This is especially prevalent when it’s washing day. We suggest to keep it safe and download BOM – its the most accurate weather app to date.
Buying Furniture.. or anything really
Gumtree is a blessing to Australia, whether you’re looking for a couch, fridge, washing machine, dinning set, bed frame.. you name it! Gumtree has a listing. It’s mostly second hand items, sometimes new, looking for a new home at a discounted price. You can even find a job or buy a car!
There is also a “Free” section where people list items they just want gone. They’re happy to forego payment for someone to come and pick the item up from it’s location.
We hope these help you on your journey to Australia. If you have any questions please leave a comment below, or if you know of any other apps let us know because we’d love to know and I’m sure other readers would love to know more about Australia and how to navigate any situation.
